Twelve teams arrived to a southerly breeze and clearing skies. After a brief skippers meeting led by PRO Jeff Johnson (UT Alum) the fleet departed the San Diego Yacht Club for the 30 min sail to the course. The alternates, B division and coaches boarded the RC boat Corinthian for a ride down to the rotation dock.
Races were started around 11:15 and 2A and 2b races were completed before the westerly arrived calling for a full stop of racing to rotate the course 90 degrees for the afternoon seabreeze. Racing continue until 17:00 when the departure horns of the nearby cruise ship signaled the need to clear the venue or be run over. The fleet hooked up onto a tow and headed home, 14A races and 12 B races in the bank.
Sunday dawned with a stronger southerly breeze and gloomy skies. Once again the fleet rigged up and loaded onto the Corinthian for the trip to the course. Racing was started around 11:30 and once again had to come to a full stop around 13:00 for the seabreeze and a course rotation. By the cut off of 15:00 11A and 11B races were completed and the fleet headed home.
It takes a small army to pull off an event like this and would not have happened without some key players. SDYC Director John Reiter (SDSU Alum) for paving the way with the club, SDYC Race Director Jeff Johnson for serving as PRO and managing the on the water assets, SDYC Staff Commodore Bill Campbell (USNA Alum) for serving as Chief Judge and managing the Corinthian, SDYC member Bob Vincent for liaising with the port and managing the rotation dock. Jeff was assisted on the water by Megan Pluth (UCI Alum), Morgane Renoir (UCSB Alum), Paige Johnston (UCLA Alum), Jed Olenick (UCLA Dad), Jim Person and Gary Adler (both SDYC RC members).
