Racing was postponed this morning due to not enough wind on the lake. The conditions were glassy, hot and humid. When the wind began to come up teams had an opportunity to practice in the boats, Club Flying Juniors (CFJs), quickly before racing got underway around 1 p.m. CDT. The wind was around 9 knots out of the southwest. The competitors sail a windward/leeward course with four legs (W4).
The winds continued to cycle anywhere from three to 10 knots from a southwesterly direction. The first two A-division races ran smoothly despite a protest between Boston College and the U.S. Naval Academy in the second A-division race. Boston College was eventually disqualified from the race for taking too close in the two-boat lengths circle.
When B-division got started the winds lightened up causing a re-start for their first race, but it filled in to about 6-8 knots and the committee started the race again.
The wind was shifty on the course and at times the fleet would spread out a lot especially if boats did not get off the starting line well or if they missed the first shift.
One other protest was filed today between Old Dominion University and the New York Maritime College in the fifth A-division race resulting in Old Dominion being disqualified.
Twelve races total, six in each division were completed today. Racing did not end until around 7:15 p.m. in 3 knots from the west-southwest. It was a long hot day on the water for the competitors.
The racing was postponed in the morning until about 11:30 a.m. when A-division hit the water with 6-8 knots from the northeast; the temperature was around 80 degrees. A-division was able to sail two races on flat water, however, by the time it was B-division’s turn to rotate in, the wind had died out and racing was postponed again.
After a false alarm where it looked like breeze would fill in around 2 p.m. and the boats started to head out, the race committee raised another postponement flag. Around 3:45 p.m. the wind looked promising and the B-division fleet headed out to start racing around 4 p.m.
The wind was coming from the north around 8-12 knots at the start of race 7B. The race committee was able to run eight races total today, four in both A and B-divisions on a W4 course. The wind continued to fluctuate and the conditions were shifty, as they have been over the last week of competition.
By 6:30 p.m. the winds were 8-10 knots out of the north-northwest and racing wrapped up around 7:15 p.m. Georgetown University managed to hold onto their lead all day. They finished yesterday’s racing 19 points ahead of second place and today they are 30 points ahead of Yale University who is in second place. Georgetown was ranked number one coming into the ICSA National Championships.
Competitors arrived this morning around 9 a.m. and sailing was postponed for a lack of wind at 10 a.m. The weather was cloudy, hot and humid. Forty-five minutes later wind began to fill in and A-division hit the water for their first race. The winds were about 3-5 knots out of the northeast. The wind direction was similar to yesterday, but the shifts were long and spotty.
Roger Williams University won the first A-division race, 11 A and Harvard University won the next race in the set. B-division hit the water for their first set of the day in a northeast breeze around 3-5 knots.
The cloud cover was shifting the wind around and race 13 in A-division faced the brunt of the unstable conditions. The race was abandoned three times before the wind direction and speed held steady. The fourth try was a success, but by this time it was 4 p.m. and time in the event was running out. This was the last race for A-division in the regatta. The University of Wisconsin-Madison won the race by about 43 seconds followed by Yale University and Tufts University.
The last race of the day and the event was 13B, which had one general recall. Georgetown was leading the race in the beginning, but was overtaken by Brown University. Brown won the race followed by Yale and the College of Charleston.
Three races in each division were completed today for a total of 13 in each division for the regatta.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
