Charleston Womens

Summary

Saturday, March 3:

Racing began in SSW winds between 10-14 knots and a slacking ebb tide. A and B divisions raced in a combined fleet resulting in 18 boats on the line. Five races were completed using W4s and W5s with offsets and gates. Race six was abandoned shortly after the start due to approaching thunderstorms. Racing was postponed onshore until 2PM when it became clear the squall line was intensifying. No protests or breakdowns were filed.

Sunday, March 4:

After the rain had finally subsided, teams arrived to clearing skies and temperatures in the mid-40s. Racing began at 9:45 in a building WNW wind between 10-14 knots while a plethora of rain created a strong ebb tide. Course 4, Cooper River Cross Current Gold Cups, was used for races 6-10. After a short lunch break, races 11 and 12 were sailed using the course W4, with offsets and independent gates. A flooding tide and shifty winds caused many general recalls and mark changes as the RC attempted to keep racing fair and square. By the end of race 12, the front had passed and was generating sustained winds in the 20s and gusts around 30. Racing was called at approximately 1:15 PM. Thanks to the team of Cougars for their daring rescues in the strong winds and helping run a great event. Congratulations to College of Charleston for winning the 2012 Charleston Women’s Regatta!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
