2010 Western Canada Cup Hosted by University of Victoria March 6-7, 2010
Saturday: The first day of the 2010 Western Canada Cup saw 6 schools competing in 12 FJ’s in two fleets on beautiful Cadboro Bay in Victoria, Canada. A twice around Windward Leeward course was sailed. The teams were greeted by a steady Southerly breeze that maintained itself at 8-10 knots for the entire morning and into the early afternoon. The breeze dropped slightly as the afternoon wore on and by the last race of the day, the wind had dropped to a 5 knot Southeast breeze. Conditions remained static throughout the day with warm air and sunny skies. Saturday saw a BBQ hosted at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club and by day’s end 12 races had been completed.
Sunday: The second day of the regatta saw the breeze fill in to 12 knots which remained steady from the West until about Lunch when it dropped to 6-8 knots and shifted to a more Southerly direction. 12 more races were sailed making a full rotation. By days end, the University of Washington Two was the winner of this year’s cup.
Special thanks go out to the Royal Victoria Yatch Club for hosting this year’s cup and to the RC team and the members of the UVic sailing team who volunteered their time to help make this year’s Western Canada Cup the best organized and biggest success yet.
