Day one of the inaugural West Coast Championships started off with a chilly and shifty southwest breeze. Light breeze and strong current made for a tactical day on the water, rewarding teams who stayed patient and connected the dots. PRO Doug Hart and his team of Aztec volunteers were able to get four races off in each division before daylight (and breeze) faded. After a mentally exhausting day of racing, the fleet was welcomed by a BBQ by the beach. No protests were filed. Special thanks to the UCSD and SDSU leadership for all their hard work in preparation, and for MBYC for welcoming everyone into their home.
