Toni Deutsch '58 Trophy 2025

Summary

Saturday, September 6:

Great early fall sailing conditions on the Charles with 10 races per division held in a puffy 7-15 knots out of the SSW with temps in 80’s.

Racing was very close with the top four teams finishing the day separated by only four points.

RC team consisted of PRO Joe Fava BC ‘01, scoring Mike Kanare UVM ‘14, MIT undergrad Damian Gold, and MIT dockmaster Dan Tucker on breakdowns. Judges were Zach Shapiro NU ‘13 and Duncan Howes Cornell ‘25. NEISA rep was Miles Bailey from URI.

This trophy honors Toni Deutsch ‘58, the first female varsity letter winner at MIT and one of the trailblazers for women competing in collegiate sailing. Toni later supported the MIT athletics and Sailing in various ways including as a member of the MIT corporation. It is fitting that the opening regatta of the year of women’s collegiate sailing competition be named in her honor.

-Matt Lindblad Cucchiaro Family Director of Sailing

Sunday, September 7:

Rainy and light winds on the Charles today. After a delay waiting for wind ashore until 11am, four races were sailed in each division in 4-6 NE wind.

Congratulations to the RWU Hawks for the opening weekend!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
