Tiger Women's Open

Summary

Saturday, September 20:

Saturday proved to be a beautiful day for the Tiger Women’s Open at the glorious Anchor Yacht Club. With winds hovering around ten knots with gusts of 18 and temperatures in the low 70’s, the men of the Princeton Sailing Team, newly charged with the weighty office of Race Committee, set out intent on accomplishing two objectives: first, to administer a competition worthy of their team’s reputation for organization; and second, to keep the regatta contained to a single day as an act of mercy to several of the further-flung teams.

Competitors from Columbia University, NY Maritime, Washington College, University of Maryland, American University, University of Delaware, William and Mary and the hosts Princeton raced 16 scorching races. Columbia ended up carrying the day with bullets in all but three races, but all were well-contested.

As the competitors battled each other, the Race Committee had its own war to fight. The men of the Princeton Sailing Team did battle with wind shifts of 90 degrees and shifty currents; large tankers passing through the course; the allure of Instagram reels during the starting sequence; unanticipatedly airborne Gatorade bottles; and the question of what it really means to be anchored, anyway? Despite all the obstacles in their path, they accomplished (at least in their own humble judgement) the objectives they had set out to complete.

Racing finished by 5:00; no protests or breakdowns were filed.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
