Day one of the 2025 NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship started on a Friday this year with a 2pm report time. There was no wind until around 4pm when a Southeasterly breeze filled in. 4 races were sailed from 4:30pm until 6:45pm for the ILCA 6 Women's fleet on W4 courses with the wind from 6-10 knots from the S/SE. No protests or breakdowns were reported.
Competitors arrived on day two of the NEISA Open and Women's Singlehanded Championships at the Ted Turner '60 Sailing Pavilion/Edgewood Yacht Club to beautiful weather and a earlier than expected South/Southeasterly that began to fill in around 9:45am. An on time start of 10:30am took place for the Open fleet in ILCA 7's and the Women's fleet in the ILCA 6's started about 12 minutes later. All races were W4's and approximately 20-24 minutes for the Women's fleet and 25-30 minutes for the Open fleet who had a windward mark further upwind with 31 boats. A maximum of 8 more races per fleet were scheduled with the first four races in the 7-10 knot range on Saturday. We were able to get in the last four per fleet in a building and shifting right breeze to the South that increased to 12-16 knots as the temps warmed up to the mid 70's. The waves also increased as the tide switched in the the afternoon and started going out against the wind, which made for some awesome surfing conditions and grinding hard upwind. In the end, 8 races were sailed on day two in each fleet by 3:30pm in incredible open water conditions. All 12 races on the schedule were completed for the 15-boat women's fleet and 11 total of the 12 for the 31-boat Open fleet. The racing was fierce and there were a lot of tired sailors at the end of the day. We had a wide range of conditions over the two days, with flat water, great waves, and winds between 6-16 knots. No protests and only one redress was filed in the Open Fleet resulting in average points awarded to Ben Reeser from Coast Guard in race 9.
