Lone Star Regatta

Summary

Saturday, September 13:

The morning in Corpus Christi started with the usual blue sky and scattered cumulus inland, wind 6.2 kts from East, and a short chop left over from earlier thunderstorms before dawn. 1st race underway at 1030, on time. Winds required minor course changes as velocity gradually increased to 13 kts by the early afternoon with the chop developing into more established small waves good for surfing and downwind technical sailing. The afternoon racing continued with blue sky and scattered cumulus inland, wind ESE building to 17.5 kts by the last race of the day, #10. The afternoon wind direction was quite steady, requiring no changes to the course axis, however the entire regatta was defined by an oscillating shift to both sides of the axis. Careful attention to phase was required of the sailors. Established waves good for surfing and downwind technical sailing were a feature of the regatta.

Sunday, September 14:

Sunday morning in started with the usual blue sky and scattered cumulus inland, wind 5.5 kts from ESE. 1st race underway at 1030, on time. Over the course of the four races required to finish the regatta the wind increased to 10 kts by the finish of racing. An oscillating right shift of 5-10 degrees was a feature of the course today. Sailors who played this correctly earned good finishes. A finish time of 1230 left several teams with time on their hands, spent relaxing on the CCYC pool deck, swimming, and relaxing.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
