Janet Lutz Trophy

Summary

Saturday, November 8:

Conditions at 10:00 a.m. began with a steady 8 to 13 knots from the west-northwest; ideal for hiking, but the breeze shifted right earlier than forecast. By the first start, the wind continued veering and began to ease.

The men’s fleet launched Race 1 with several boats over early, while the women’s fleet faced two general recalls before getting underway. Midway through the women’s first beat, the wind swung 90 degrees to the north, prompting quick adjustments by race management. The breeze then faded into a dying northerly as the fleet completed the race.

Late in the afternoon, signs of recovery appeared from the northeast. Race 2 for both fleets started in light air, 4.4 to 5 knots from the ENE. The ILCA 7 fleet kept judges busy as competitors pushed the limits of Rule 42 with frequent tacks and jibes.

Despite the challenges, two races were completed. Looking ahead, Sunday’s forecast promises stronger conditions, setting the stage for an exciting day on the water.

Sunday, November 9:

Although the conditions didn’t live up to the forecast. The Southerly was generally 4-8 with a few shots above 12. It certainly wasn’t stable, and two races were abandoned when the wind dropped well below the minimum. However, the conditions provided close racing in both fleets.

Congratulations to the winner of the Janet Lutz Trophy, Gilda Dondona, Cornell '28; and winner of the Glen S Foster Trophy, Robbie Meek, Harvard ’27.

Big thank you to our event volunteers and local clubs Norfolk Yacht and Hampton Yacht for the support of their boats. Thank you Zim Sailing, Official Supplier of Boats to the ICSA. Photos from the event can be found here: https://www.schillphotography.com/p948514458

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
