Hewitt Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 4:

First race was postponed to 1:00pm which was after the wind switch was found and Harpswell Sound went from glassy to 7knots from the South. The breeze stuck between 6 to 10 knots until sunset which was a beautiful backdrop to the last race of the day. Strong current was a key feature for the first 4 races then during rotation at the dock, it switched and went almost slack before speeding back up.

5 protests were filed and they will be heard at the beginning of Sunday. Thank you to coaches for volunteering to hear those in the morning.

Sunday, October 5:

The morning postponement was spent hearing Saturday’s protests and requests for redress. Many thanks to Greg Wilkinson, Tara Foster, and Emmet Smith for their work in the justice system. Once the light northerly faded, a southerly began to fill, and Dipper Cove offered the most promising racing. After adjusting the course, A Division got underway. With the help of coaches, the course was moved farther away from shore, and several more races were completed in 4-6 knots while managing the current. A large shift eventually signaled the end of racing after 12 races total. Thank you to everyone who helped the event run smoothly, and a special shoutout to Chris Dakers and Lilly Spartz for assisting The Citadel in making their flight back to Charleston!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
