Chris Loder Trophy

Summary

Saturday, October 18:

Saturday Thanks again to coaches Ben Chafee, Emma Janson for welcoming UNH Sailing to their venue so we could host the 26th Chris Loder Trophy. Thanks also to the many UVM sailors for spending the past two days managing support boats and shore duty.

Saturday began with Chris sharing a few words and promising to take pictures so teams could share with parents who are likely missing their kids. Champlain started with a moderate Southerl. Lumpy conditions slowly built. Breeze fluctuated in the 5-10 kt. range all afternoon allowing for six full rotations. One protest was filed resulting in a DSQ to UMass Amherst. Thanks to ICSA/NEISA rep Salve coach, Brittney Manning, for hearing the protest after a long day. The day ended with Vermont in first with UNH, UVM 2 and Salve not far behind.

Sunday, October 19:

Sunday With a spicy forecast Champlain greeted sailors with a nice breeze around 13 and some lump from the South. Sailors were reminded that conditions were liable to become much spicier and that it was a sailor’s decision to sail. Prediction was for breeze in the low 20’s and significantly higher gusts. Sailors went out as it began to pick up to 18 hoping to get a rotation completed but it was not to be. However, as the course was being set up sailors were roaring around upwind, downwind, and screaming reaches with very wet sailors and boats, TOO MUCH FUN!! All the coaches and B division were envious. As the first sequence was being started the breeze pipped up to just over 20 and the decision was made for everyone to go in. One turtle, righted by a shirtless UVM sailor made for an interesting time. The decision was made to end the regatta at that point as conditions were continuing to build and safety was paramount.

Photography Thanks to both Chris Loder and Alan Oulette for shooting so many pictures on Sat. Chris was prepped for Sunday and although he wasn’t able to get out to shoot the super fun sailing he took the opportunity to take some shots of teams on land. It was awesome to have two professional photographers for a beautiful day in Vermont.

The links to pictures don't want to save. Go to UNHSailing Ficker account and look for the 2025 Chris Loder album. For Alan's, go to Alan Ouellette's Flickr account and look for the Loder Trophy. Thank you both.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
