Sherman Hoyt Trophy

Summary

Saturday, September 21:

It was a cold, wet, and mostly breezy day for day one of the Sherman Hoyt Trophy. While the race committee froze, the competitors had awesome and close racing in Northeast winds ranging from 12-18 knots. 8 races were sailed in each division with A-division in FJs and B-division in 420s. All courses were W4's. Thanks to our judges: Richard Feeny, Tyler Rice, and George Higham. One protest was heard that was disallowed and 2 breakdowns were granted. Race 9A warning is at 10am on Sunday in 420s.

Sunday, September 22:

Day two of the Hoyt had warmer temps, no rain, and great conditions to finish up with six more races in each division. The breeze was mainly Northeast again between 8-12 knots for the first 4 races. A line of dark clouds rolled through for the last two races in each division, shifting the breeze right to the east more with some strong winds up to 18 knots or so. All races were W4's with A-division in 420s and B-division in FJs for all six races in each division on Sunday. One protest was filed that was disallowed.

A huge thanks to our judges Richard Feeny, Tyler Rice, and George Higham and to all of the Brown sailors who helped with Race Committee and really braved the elements on Saturday: Vera Allen, Charlie Gish, Gabby Collins, Julian Dahiya, Mara Oancea, and Anna Steffen. Thanks as well to Harvard Coach Mike O'Connor for being the NEISA Rep.

The racing was really awesome all weekend and it came down to the last race in B-division between Roger Williams and Brown Bears 1 for the overall win. Congratulations to the Roger Williams Hawks on winning the 2024 Sherman Hoyt Trophy.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
