The day started off with a short postponement due to a king tide that closed the rotation area in addition to some other factors that slowed the start down, so racing got under way at around 11:25am. A very frisky northeasterly breeze threatened early to make the day quite exciting, but it surprisingly shifted around to the WSW and remained shifty within reason from about 230-255 degrees. After 4 races had been completed in nearly all varsity divisions, the wind took a hard bank to the right and brought around the Northerly breeze after all with lots of very large shifts and some solid puffs (but nothing too crazy as it maxed out at around 20 mph and mostly stayed under 15mph).
Three requests for redress due to breakdown were filed and 5 protests were filed (with one being withdrawn). We opted for an early call time for those who are involved in hearings as the light was fading quickly as we sailed in. The order of hearings has been posted on the notice board.
6 races were completed in all three varsity divisions and 4 were completed in both jv divisions. Competition was remarkably competitive with 10 teams grabbing the bulk of top five finishes. Thanks so much to the Gauchos for running the jv race course. Special thanks to Kris Ozolins (UC Davis alumni) and Emerson Wadell (future recruit of some lucky team) for running the mark set boats on the varsity course.

Sunday brought a more typical fall day in SB with very little to no breeze. Wind lines threatened to get the racers out on the water but ultimately receded until finally around 1pm a soft SSW breeze began to fill. The racers were notified there would be a 1:15pm warning and racing commenced. A more typical sea breeze took place and 2 more races were sailed in each division. It was notable that the competition was quite tight and parity was definitely present. Stanford maintained their classic composure to avoid big number finishes and ran away with the regatta, however the remainder of the top 10 traded winning finishes with San Diego State being the story of the day - threatening UCSB for the 2nd place spot going into the last race. The Gauchos defended and kept their spot, but the Aztecs were able to grab the third podium spot. Santa Cruz had a really notable regatta as well and USC did really great despite one of their starters being injured. Hawaii also sailed well but had an unfortunate DSQ that resulted from a protest in 4A. Regardless of the competitiveness, the good vibes in the PCCSC was alive and well. It was great to have UVic, UW, and WWU join the regatta - looking forward to more awesome events!
