Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the first Triangle Tango Intercollegiate Regatta, Lake Crabtree welcomed sailors on Saturday with favorable conditions including a consistent east-north easterly breeze between 6 and 10 knots gusting to 15 and oscillating shifts. Six races were completed in A-Division with five races completed in B-Division before conditions lightened too much to sail. At the close of day one, nine teams completed eleven total races with the host NC State Wolfpack leading their closest competitor, a second NC State squad, the Red Terror, by 3 points and the Clemson Tigers by eleven points. Races averaged between 16 and 18 minutes each and aggressive starts from the competitors led to several general recalls and regular use of the I-flag. Onshore, a healthy crowd of spectators lined the waterfront and clamored for views from the Lake Crabtree viewing tower. Rotations were completed efficiently and only one protest was filed, heard and dismissed.
Day two of the 2024 Triangle Tango Intercollegiate Regatta started on a delay as the Race Committee scouted the entirety of the lake for breeze. Eventually conditions materialized enough to start racing by around 11am with winds of about five knots out of the east, although patchy conditions made it hard to complete races and several were abandoned. In all, teams completed another three races on the day, a sixth race for B-Division and a matching one-and-one for both divisions to close out the afternoon. Following the event, a brief awards ceremony was held and 3D printed trophies were provided to the winners and runners up. Congratulations to the host NC State Wolfpack on the regatta win, followed by the NC State Red Terror, the Clemson Tigers, and The Citadel Bulldogs. Many thanks to the race committee, the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance (who provided hospitality bags for all of the competitors!), and all of the volunteers shoreside and organizers who helped make this year's Triangle Tango Regatta a success and a nice finale for a competitive and Corinthian fall college sailing season in SAISA. The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
