Ten teams are on hand at the Naval Academy in Annapolis for the Shields Trophy Regatta aboard the Academy's fleet of Nay 44s.
PRO Nelson Pemberton ran 4 windward leeward races in northeasterly wind that started in the mid teens but diminished as the day went on.
Cal Maritime dominated the day winning the first three races and taking second in the 4th race behind University of Rhode Island.
Heading into tomorrow, Cal holds a commanding lead with 5 points, URI is second with 11 and Navy is third with 15.
Fingers are crossed that we get reasonable wind tomorrow to complete the series.

Today's conditions provided a bit lighter wind than yesterday still from the NE. Again, the current was ebbing strong making maneuvering around the start line as well as the weather mark challenging for all.
Three more races were held to complete the slate with a different winner in each. Navy found their mojo in race 1 to take the win with Coast Guard next back in second. Cal Maritime took a rare stumble to take 6th and seemingly opened the door for a scramble in the standings.
However, Cal picked up where they left off yesterday, winning the 6th race convincingly to ice the series with a race to spare. Coast Guard again finished second to make a play for the podium while URI and Navy were 5th and 6th respectively.
Going into the last race, second and third overall were up for grabs between Navy, URI, Coast Guard And Maine Maritime.
URI nailed the start to lead wire to wire while Coast Guard and Maine battled for second/third. Navy spent the race digging back from a poor start and managed a 4th but ended up losing the tie breaker for second to URI.
Congratulations to the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers on an outstanding performance!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
