SAISA Fall Women's Championship

Summary

Friday, October 27:

Day 1 of the SAISA fall women's championship was sailed on Tampa Bay in a light 4-7 knot easterly with a strong outgoing current. Eleven teams competed, courses were all W4, and ranged from 12 to 18 minutes in length. Using 3 race sets to maximize the amount of sailing, 6 A races were sailed and 3 B races, with Jacksonville University currently the regatta leader. No protests, no breakdowns.

Racing on Day 2 will begin with B division with a 9am report time and a cutoff time of 12:30pm. After that the action moves to Eckerd College for the SAISA fall open championship.

Saturday, October 28:

Day 2 of the SAISA Women's Fall Championship began with 10-13 knots from the NE and heavy chop on Tampa Bay, dropping to 6-8 knots with some full-moon tidal current and moderate chop. B division sailed races 4-6, then A division sailed 3 more races, and finally B division completed their set. The final race was started with mere minutes to spare before the 12:30pm cutoff time. All races were W4's, averaging 12-14 minutes in length. No protests were filed.

Extremely close racing among the top three teams as host University of South Florida, College of Charleston, and Jacksonville University exchanged the lead throughout the series. With one race to go, USF and CoC were tied with 40 points, with JU at 41 points. When the dust settled, they finished in that order; USF, CoC, and JU. A division honors went to Emily Allen / Reagan Carris from JU, B division honors to Emma Tallman / Lucy Klempen from CoC.

Many thanks to the 11 teams participating, to Eckerd College for loaning an extra powerboat, and to all of the USF team members who helped run the event.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
