Day one of the Nickerson is complete after eight races in A and seven in B. Most of the day was sailed in an unstable Westerly breeze ranging from 5 to 12 knots. The day ended with the breeze rotating to the North with increasingly large shifts, which due to our limited ability to adjust the course put an end to racing for the day. To that end, thank you to competitors for bearing with our powerboat issues. Several protests and requests for redress were filed, and relevant changes have been added to the scores.
Tomorrow, competitors are encouraged to dress warmly, as the air temperature will barely break 50 over the course of the day. Anyone with access to a drysuit is encouraged to bring it just in case. Racing will begin by completing Race 8B, after which the rotation will continue as normal with 9A and 10A. Competitors are encouraged to refresh their memory of how to rig the main halyard by reviewing the diagram on Techscore. Additionally, this is a reminder that jib wires should not be removed from the jibs.
Thank you to Jack Flores '25, Cindy Wang '25, and Matt Wallace '25 for helping on the race committee boat, and to Courtland Doyle '27, Maria Skouloudi '27, and Greta Traver '27 for their help in making sure everything went smoothly on shore. Competitors arrived at the lake to a light and variable Northeasterly breeze, which rotated to the Northwest during the first race. After sailing 8B-10A, the lake glassed out with the oncoming rainstorm and competitors returned to shore. 9B and 10B were completed when a light Northeasterly filled in after the rain had (mostly) passed. Congrats to Jumbos 2 for winning the regatta, and to all competitors for sailing well over the course of a very "Mystical" weekend. Safe travels to all teams, but especially our out-of-conference guests.
Special thanks to our race committee team, which today included Adrien Bellanger '25 in addition to those who I mentioned yesterday.
