On the first day of the Navy Women's Regatta, the fleet launched on time to race in a light easterly breeze. Unfortunately, the wind died while the boats were on the way to the course. We headed back in for an on shore postponement and then began racing early afternoon in a 4-6 knot southeasterly breeze. Two races were completed before storms in the area forced the fleet back to shore. We waited on shore for a bit until it was determined that there was just too much lightning activity in the area and racing was called for the day.
Sunday's racing began on time and one race was completed and a second race started and abandoned when the wind died out. After a lengthy postponement ashore, the wind filled in a little before 2 PM and racing resumed in light air. One more race was completed and a race was started and abandoned when a thunderstorm came a bit too close and we were forced back to shore. Congratulations to Penn for winning the 2023 Navy Women's Regatta.
