Hoosierpalooza

This weekend Indiana University held the Hoosierpalooza Regatta at Lake Monroe in Bloomington, Indiana. The regatta included five teams which were Indiana University, Miami University of Ohio, University of Illinois, University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College, and the University of Cincinnati.

The course set for the weekend was a windward, leeward with a downwind gate but no offset placed alongside the windward mark. On Saturday, both A and B fleet competed in four races with a total of eight races. Saturday’s races averaged around twenty- five minutes each with higher winds in the teens and gusts into the high twenties. It was the windier day of the event, but breeze was manageable for safe and exciting racing. Saturday our PRO, Walt, provided lunch for the five teams and a cook out at the end of the race day.

Sunday, both A and B fleet sailed two more races with a total of four races for the day. Sundays races averaged around thirty minutes with winds between six to eight knots with gusts between ten and fourteen.

Thanks to all of IU’s club members who helped out, we were able to host an entertaining and organized regatta. Sunday we held an award ceremony to announce the overall winner of the regatta along with the winners of A and B fleet individually. This year, Hoosierpalooza’s first place team was IU with twenty- three points. The winner of A fleet was University of Illinois with eight points and the winner of B fleet was Indiana University with six points. In second place for the regatta overall was Illinois with twenty- five points, Miami in third with thirty- nine points, Notre Dame in 4th with forty- one points, Saint Mary’s in fifth with fifty-two points, and the University of Cincinnati with eighty-four points.
