Soggy conditions greeted the ten teams who are on hand at Navy to compete for the McMillan Cup, the oldest trophy in college sailing.
Principal Race Officer Paul Clissold and his race committee team completed four races in unstable light to moderate southerly winds and continuous rain.
Coast Guard sailed strong posting a 2,1,1,7 to hold the lead with Maine Maritime and Kings Point in second and third respectively.
Racing continues tomorrow with a windy forecast awaiting the competitors.

The conditions for the McMillan Cup today were just as forecast; a windy blustery northwesterly to follow yesterday's dismal rainy conditions.
Coast Guard started the day two points up on Kings Point with Maine Maritime lurking a point behind KP. KP got out of the blocks strong winning the first race today while Coast Guard and Maine stumbled. However, KP took a penalty in race 6 leaving them just one point ahead of Coast Guard going into the finale.
KP nailed the pin end in the last race and battled around the course with race winner Maine, settling for second and the regatta win. Coast Guard had a poor final race but were able to hang on for second overall. Meanwhile, Maine's final race win made up for their previous two poor finishes and was enough to beat Navy for the third and final podium position in a tiebreaker.

Huge thanks to all the Navy Sailing volunteers who made the event happen including fleet captain Frieda Wildey, PRO Paul Clissold who was assisted by Jan Richardson, Steve Small, Tom Stalder and a bunch of the Offshore Sailing Team mids.
