This morning 17 Women's teams arrived to sunny skies a beautiful Fall day in New York, but no wind. The forecast was for a Southerly to fill in around 10am so the race committee had a course set right off the dock for the anticipated breeze direction. Unfortunately the breeze took its time to arrive and racing was postponed until 11:30am. We were able to get the first race off around 11:50am in a building southerly.
Sailors faced typical East River current flowing strongly from right to left for the first few races before the tide went slack and stayed that way for the middle of the day before switching direction for the last few races.
10 races were completed in each division by 6:00pm
We were thrilled to welcome our newly hired ICSA Executive Director Reed Maltbie to the venue. Reed spent the first half of the day at KP for the finals and the second half of the day at SUNY for the tournament.
There were 3 breakdowns filed all granted resulting in average points being awarded. Thanks to Dreugh from CNU and Rachel from USF for serving as the hearing committee. 1 protest was filed and it will be heard tomorrow.
Thank you to the SUNY Maritime sailors who worked hard all day running races and fixing breakdowns.
Sailors arrived to better breeze than forecast this morning, but still marginal conditions especially given the East River current.
SUNY Sailors did a great job getting the course set and a race off in each division before the breeze dropped enough that racing was not possible. 1 race in each division was completed.
After a brief postponement and early lunch break ashore a coaches meeting determined that given the forecast we were not going to be able to get any racing in before the cutoff time so the consensus was to wrap up early and end for good around noon. The breeze did not fill in and the river remained glassy until at least 2pm when I left campus.
A huge thanks to Dave Curtis from HDFA Photography for the awesome shots today even though we only got 1 race off, he got lots of shots of the sailors racing.
Congrats to JU for winning the Tournament!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
