The 2022 Triangle Tango Intercollegiate Regatta started with sunny skies over Lake Crabtree and wind filling in around 10AM to about 9mph in a southwesterly direction. With a shoreline full of spectators and off-rotation sailors, racing began just after 10AM with The Citadel out to an early lead followed by Duke and Clemson. Throughout the day the wind speed continued to increase topping out around 14mph by 230pm and clocking further south as the day progressed. Race Committee was able to complete 9 races in A-Division and 6 races in B-Division before wrapping up for the day with The Citadel, Clemson, and Duke still in podium positions.
Sunday morning greeted sailors with very glassy water and a wind delay but organizers and sailors were optimistic as the forecast called for improved conditions by late morning. Unfortunately those conditions never materialized and after an extended delay the call was made to call racing for the day. The three races completed in A-Division on Saturday were unfortunately disregarded as we were unable to match them with a third rotation of B-Division on Sunday. The day was not a total loss as the sunny skies and warm weather made for a relaxing Sunday at the lake. Big thanks to all of the teams who traveled to Raleigh for this year's Triangle Tango. Congrats to The Citadel on the regatta win and well done to all the participating teams. Special recognition to the NC State host team for hustling to put on a great event, run quality races, and make sure things ran as smoothly as possible. Thanks, too, to the Duke team for helping with a motor boat and pitching in, as well.
