SAISA Women's Open

Saturday morning brought cool temperatures and calm water on Lake Crabtree much like many venues on the east coast, but this did not stop SAISA teams in attendance from enjoying the regatta hospitality, breakfast and opening ceremony where they were welcomed to Raleigh by representatives of the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance. Some teams even got out on the water on kayaks and canoes to enjoy the beautiful fall temperatures and picturesque venue while they waited for breeze. After the delay, racing began around 12 noon as a 5-6 mph southeasterly filled in and held for a full set in both divisions. In A-Division, the home team NC State Ladypack took the lead in the first race and held on for the full rotation followed closely by UNC-Wilmington and the University of Miami. In B-Division, Georgia Tech won the first race but both Miami and NC State came charging back in the second and third races of the set with NC State securing the regatta win followed with podium finishes for the University of Miami and Georgia Tech. The event was well-attended by parents and spectators on shore and all competitors and fans enjoyed an afternoon treat of Howling Cow Ice Cream made at NC State donated by the NCSU College of Agriculture. In true SAISA style, Corinthian competition, outstanding sportsmanship and hospitality were in abundance for the kickoff of SAISA women's sailing for the Fall 2022 season.
