Early in the afternoon, following the conclusion of the SAISA Fall Women's Championship, SAISA's Open Championship kicked off with 18 teams from four states in the southeast. The field included some of the country's top collegiate sailors. In the afternoon, despite the occasional lull, the breeze built and then held steady allowing solid competition that went on past sunset. As darkness fell, the fleet returned to the dock having completed six races per division. On the race course, the College of Charleston put up a flurry of first place finishes (four in twelve races), but also had a DSQ that knocked them out of first place. Miami was ready to capitalize and moved into first place and “slept on the lead.” The field was tightly bunched field - just 23 points separated the 'Canes in 1st place from NC State in 6th place. Scoring was tight further down the leaderboard as well.
A mid morning lull gave way to steady breezes of 5 to 7 knots. The competition - particularly in A fleet - was stiff. Mark roundings were crowded and tightly contested. Rollins' boat house on Lake Virginia proved to be a suitable base camp for a large gathering of college sailors. The regatta's two divisions sailed five races each and called it quits at 3:30. On the scoreboard, Charleston continued to put up good numbers with top-3 finishes in 6 of ten races. However, the DSQs continued to plague them, and they finished second in the regatta. Miami was able to hold its lead and won the day with Jacksonville, Florida State and Eckerd rounding out the top-5. Congratulations to all on a successful fall season!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
