MAISA Match Race Championship

Summary

Saturday, September 24:

The 28-race round robin was completed in excellent, if not slightly tricky conditions. While winds were generally from the WNW from 6-12kts, there were a few big shifts and one really light spot. The Race Management Team did a fantastic job responding to the shifts. One boat broke an upper shroud, forcing a re-sail of that race and the USMMA maintenance staff responded quickly, getting the shroud replaced and back on the water in record time!

Very special thanks to our umpires: Eric Johnson (CHUMP), Tony Weiner, Paul Gilman and Sam Hahn as well as Larry Kennedy for his fantastic mark-set and course adjustment skills, The Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay, NY for loaning us their inflatable marks, and as always the USMMA midshipmen for giving up their weekend liberty to work the regatta. -PRO, Rick Dominique

Sunday, September 25:

Racing today was for the Semi-Finals, Finals and Petit-Finals, as the Round-Robin racing was completed yesterday (10 Flights).

#1 seed from the Round-Robin, Kings Point chose Cornell to face in the Semi-finals, which placed Georgetown racing Hobart-William Smith. Both higher seeds won two races in a row in 8-14kt. southerlies.

In the Petit-Finals, Hobart-William Smith came back from down 1-0, winning two in a row to take third overall.

In the Finals, Georgetown bested home team Kings Point in two straight races to claim the overall title. Congratulations to Georgetown on the win and qualification for the 2022 ICSA Match Race Nationals!

A very sincere thank you to our umpires Eric Johnson, Tony Weiner, Paul Gilman and Sam Hahn! Also, I'd like to thank the mark-moving wizard, Larry Kennedy and The Waterfront Center for use of their inflatable marks. As always thanks to the USMMA midshipmen that gave up their weekend liberty to serve on race committee.

Last, and certainly not least, "Thank you" to the sailors and coaches for coming to KP, competing and supporting this discipline of sailing in college sailing. It is not just the diversity of our people, but the diversity of our sport that makes sailing great! - PRO, Rick Dominique
