SAILING INSTRUCTIONS RULES

1.1 This regatta will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024 (RRS), the Procedural Rules (PR) and Class Rules for Intercollegiate Sailing Competition 2021-2024, and the SAISA Rules and Regulations, except as any of these are modified by these Sailing Instructions.

1.2 RRS Appendix P will be in effect, as modified by PR 32.

1.3 Any questions regarding these Sailing Instructions should be submitted in writing to parramoreaj@eckerd.edu and will be passed on to the jury.

NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

2.1 Notices will be posted on the official regatta notice board located on the white board next to the sailing center storage container.

CHANGES IN SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

3.1 Any changes in the sailing instructions will be announced orally and posted before the first race in which they are to take effect.

FORMAT

5.1 The event will be sailed in two divisions.

5.2 A single round robin of 15 races is scheduled. Competitors will switch boats after every two races.

5.5 The format for boats and sails may be changed by the PRO in consultation with the ICSA Representative if conditions warrant a change.

BOATS & EQUIPMENT

6.1 (15) FJs and will be provided for all competitors, who shall not modify any boat or cause them to be modified in any way.

6.2 Competitors have the option of rigging the mainsheet purchase either 3:1 or 4:1.

6.3 The standing rigging shall not be adjusted.

6.4 The penalty for infringing instruction 6.1, 6.2, or 6.3 will be disqualification from all races sailed in contravention of those instructions.

6.5 Competitors shall report all damage or loss of equipment, however slight, to the PRO/dock staff or to the Race Committee Finish Boat on the water.

ROTATION

7.1 The rotation of boats will be in accordance with the online rotation, which is available on Tech Score.

MARKS

8.1 All rounding marks will be orange/red balls.

8.2 The starting mark will be an orange ball. The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee start boat and the starting mark.

8.3 The finishing line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Race Committee boat and the finishing mark (same as the starting line).

8.4 For upwind finishes on courses W3 and W5, the finishing line will be between an orange ball and a staff displaying an orange flag on the Finish boat.

COURSE

9.1 Courses will be posted on the Official Notice Board and will be Windward/Leewards with 3, 4, or 5 legs.

STARTING SYSTEM

10.1 Races will be started in accordance with PR 18(b)(i).

RECALLS

11.1 Individual recalls will be signaled in accordance with Procedural Rule 18(b)(ii).

11.2 A general recall will be used in accordance with PR 18(b)(iii). No visual signal will be given. After a general recall, the Round-an-End Rule, RRS 30.1, shall apply and no signal need be given. (Changes RRS 30.1)

PROTESTS

12.1 Protests shall be filed in accordance with the ICSA Procedural Rules.

12.2 Protests shall be filed within 30 minutes of securing boats to the shore after the race or set of races in which the incident occurred. Protest time limits will be posted on the Official Notice Board. This changes PR 30.

12.3 Protests forms will be available on the dock level (first floor) near the official notice board.

SAFETY

13.1 Competitors who require assistance from rescue boats should signify by waving arms overhead.

13.2 A competitor who retires from a race shall notify the Race Committee as soon as possible. 13.3 Starts will not be delayed to accommodate capsized boats.
