Toni Deutsch '58 was an instrumental pioneer in our sport as she was the first woman at MIT to be awarded a varsity letter. She was a valuable player as MIT won two National Championships during her undergrad years. Toni continued to assist the Institute as the Chair of the Alumni Association, served on various visiting committees, and on the MIT Corporation Board.

Racing started promptly at 11am; ten races were completed in both divisions by 4:25pm, with only a short lunch break from 1-1:30pm. A division sailed outer loop trapezoids in 3 day old Zim FJs, while B division sailed on the inner loop, in Whitecap FJs; the trapezoid course allowed both fleets to compete without delays, with no mixing of the fleets, at any time.

Several protests were recorded with the committee, but no paper protests were filed. Special thanks to David Larson (MIT '16) who served as PRO and managed a tricky start line and aggressive fleet. Also thanks to Wally Corwin for managing the docks, and Nika Silkin for keeping the scores up to date. A shoutout to Dr. Anthony Grant, MIT Athletic Director, on making a guest appearance and taking to the water to watch his first sailboat races. He was excited to see the action up close on a stellar day.

In the new NEISA format, we will start racing at 10am and finish up the remaining 4 races by an estimated 11:45am -- 14 race maximum. The breeze forecast is for a spicy SW gusting into the low 20s. Student Athletes will then be able to return to their respective campuses to enjoy some other fun weekend activities with their friends.

Racing began at 10am with a rapidly increasing W-SW breeze in the 12-18 knot range and temperatures around 80 degrees. The final four races were completed by 12:15 with B-division leading the charge on the outer loop trapezoid course, while sailing Zim FJs; A-division started second in the sequence and sailed the inner loop trap in Whitecap FJs.

Congratulations to Tufts A-division for taking the division with an impressive double bullet last set in the strongest wind of the day. Yale B-division held a sizable lead in their division, while the MIT Engineers claimed the overall title.

There were no protests filed, and one BKD granted. Thanks to Justin Assad (Dartmouth coach) and Ali Blumenthal (Coast Guard coach) for hearing the request for redress. Also thanks to Zoe Fisher and William Roberts for running the scoring operation. David Larson (MIT'16) was PRO with assistance from Donal Ryan.

Note on parking at MIT: there is now metered parking ($1.50/hr on Sat, free on Sun) on Memorial Drive. This is an improvement for visiting teams (abandoned cars no longer occupy spots on the drive). It seems that the majority of vans were able to park directly across from the pavilion.
