SAISA South Points #5

Summary

Saturday, October 9:

Saturday morning started with dense fog and nearly calm winds as sailors arrived at the Halifax Sailing Association's sailing center. After check-in and a brief skipper's meeting to review the starting sequence, course selections, and rotation procedures at the floating dock, the boats were rigged and launched.

Sailing was south of the mooring field that is at the Sailing Center. By 10 am the wind was filling in, and racing began at approximately 10:07, with 6-8 kts from the NNW. Conditions improved throughout the day, with winds averaging 10-11 kts, with gusts to 14 (and a few white-caps working against the current) near the end of racing. Races were conducted with a W4 for the first race of each set, and a W3 was used for the second race with a finish at the north end of the race course to help reduce rotation times.

The winds had some slow persistent oscillations that resulted in slightly favored legs from time to time, but the formidable current played a factor all day long, at times being strong enough to rotate the R/C boat with respect to the starting line.

By 3:30 in the afternoon we had conducted four sets of races for each division. Having too little time to conduct more races for both divisions racing was ended for the day and event.

Thanks to all of the volunteers from the Halifax Sailing Association, the Halifax Youth Sailors and ERAU Sailing Club members who helped with the event!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
