Saturday morning greeted sailors from SAISA and MAISA teams at Lake Crabtree with the last throes of an overnight rain storm which brought the lake up to flood level and scattered woodland debris across the water. After a brief opening ceremony where sailors and coaches were welcomed to Raleigh by representatives from the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, racing began by 1030AM in a building northerly breeze. A-division was sailed in FJs while B-division sailed 420s. From the very start, NC State's women were out in front while Catholic and Miami battled back and forth for second position on the day. Eleven races were completed in each division before racing wrapped by 4pm and teams were treated to a big Bojangles picnic compliments of the host sailing club. No protests or breakdowns were filed.
Day 2 of the SAISA/MAISA Women's Intercollegiate Regatta began with Lake Crabtree delivering great conditions with a consistent northerly breeze from 10-15mph and gusts into the low 20s. A-division swapped into 420s with B-division in FJs for Sunday racing and nine races were completed in each division before finishing around 130pm. Congrats to the home team NC State Wolfpack for a compelling performance leading wire to wire while the UVA Wahoos held strong to second position despite a surge from both Miami and Duke who battled closely for the final podium spot eventually secured by the comeback Blue Devils on the final race of the day. Thanks to all the Wolfpack sailors for helping to run a smooth event and deliver great hospitality for the visiting teams as always.
