Competitors arrived to light breeze and rain. During the delay we held a mini Developmental Symposium, a name that is a misnomer at this point. Racing started shortly thereafter when the breeze picked up to 5-10 with course 4's and course 5's. One set in each division ended when the breeze died out and the rain increased. Wet and chilly competitors were treated to Wildcat Spiced Apple Cider on the grill. Shifty conditions as always.
Thanks to the shore crew of Tom Bouchard, Emily Zaleski and Parker Finklestein who scored, made grilled cheese sandwiches, soup on the grill and solved boat issues. Special thanks to Clay Grieg who managed the mark boat and the many mark changes.
Tomorrow looks to be a dry forecast including sun and moderate breeze. No shows were U Mass Dartmouth and Weslyan. After checking neither team was aware they had been on the list of competitors for this regatta.
What a beautiful day on Mendums! Breeze started in the low teens decreasing throughout the day to a modest five when all was said and done. Several significant shifts meant the mark boat was hustling to tweak the marks. The sun was a welcome addition and the fall colors didn't disappoint.
Congratulations to Mass. Maritime Academy of Stephen Poirier '22, and crew Jillian Harrington '23 in A and Tyler Egeli '24 and crew Jewelnguyen Huynh '23 in B for a stellar performance, winning the New England Fall Tournament. Bates Bobcats were second and the UNH Wildcats third.
