Tricky conditions on the Shrewsbury River for the John Quinn regatta. Winds were shifty, generally from the North, and varied from 3-10 knots for much of the day.
SSYC volunteers were able to run 6A and 5B races before the breeze completely shut off around 3:00pm. Special thanks to Jack Foster, Jack Reichert, Dave Usechak, and John Gearon for their tireless efforts in moving the marks between races.
Thanks also to the sailors for their patience and best of luck in the remaining races tomorrow!
Faithfully submitted, Jack Swikart (UPN ‘15)
Sunday offered up the typical conditions that make SSYC a great place to sail in September - breeze starting out at 10-12 knots from the north, building to 15-18 knots by 11am. Race 6B went off first, followed by two more full sets for a total of 9 races for the day and 20 for the regatta. There were several capsizes when puffs caught sailors off-guard.
The University of Pennsylvania Team #1 turned in an impressive performance, particularly in B Division where they won all 5 races sailed on Sunday. Penn trailed George Washington by 15 points after Saturday racing but managed to win the regatta by 9 points over GW, despite GW's B Team winning 4 of 5 races on Saturday. Kings Point finished 3rd, followed by Webb Institute in 4th and UPenn Team #2 in 5th.
Thanks to Talbott & Lee Ingram and former All-American Jay Rhame for their excellent R/C work running Sunday's races, and to Carmen Phaneuf, Dave Poyner, Jeff Jacobi and Jack Reichert for their great job setting & moving marks and assisting with capsizes as needed.
Respectfully submitted,
John Garth, Regatta Chair

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
