Nine races completed in both divisions.
The George Waren Smith '28 Trophy honors a distinguished member of the MIT faculty who volunteered countless hours of weekend time over the course of 30 years. George and Dean of Students Emily Wick were foundational supporters of intercollegiate sailing as well as sailboat racing in Rockport, Mass. Today each team benefits from their core volunteers who perform assistant coaching, scoring, judging and other tasks which support today's competitors and the spirit of a well hosted event.
The Rhody Rams took the Smith Trophy with a dazzling performance by Ben Rosenberg and Mackenzie Fraser in A Division as well as Kerem Erkman and Katie Coughlin who also won their B Division. BU Terriers A Division boat of Noah Robitshek and Abigail Murray were right at home on their favorite Rivah taking Divisional honors. Breeze was a bouncy east wind on both days as the surface friction of the enormous buildings in downtown Boston wreaked havoc and caused some bizarre mixing of air. The racing was extremely tight all the way around the inner and outer trapezoid courses.
Regatta assistance was provided by Lucinda Charles managing flags and horns in the signal boat. Mercedes Escandon and Raymond Huffman managed perfectly all of the very congested finishes and updating Tech score while Mike Kalin and Trevor Long tweaked buoys both days. Wally Corwin hekped keep all the boats working and rotations being executed smoothly. Next year the seventh generation tech dinghy will make a come back at this traditional Fall classic regatta.
