Yale Women's

What an incredible day to be a collegiate women's sailor! Races 1-3 were sailed in an unstable and challenging WSWesterly ranging from 3-8 knots. Then right when the fleets came back out for the second set, the breeze stabilized to a more southwesterly direction, built to 15-16 knots with fantastic waves. Life Is Good! Nine races were sailed in both division with three race sets to minimize rotating on the dock with only seventeen teams competing. The only unfortunate part of the day was the amount of protests filed with the RC, six in total. Two were filed on land resulting in three DSQ's...go figure...Two breakdowns were filed, one was granted for a broken vang shackle and the other was disallowed for an untied outhaul. The fantastic ICSA coaches of Mike O'Connor, Nic Baird, David Thompson, Megan Grapengeter-Rudnick heard all protests and on breakdown. Coach boats also served and world class mark boats. Speaking of coach boats, again the fantastic Julie Wilson loaned us her inflatable to allow all coaches on the water. There were a few general recalls assisted by the forces of moving water. Race 10A is scheduled to begin at 10am Sunday.

Teams arrived to a pleasant northerly blowing 5-10 knots. Boats proply launched and arrived at the races course to 0-3 knots and winds from the NW to the E. we all floated around until 11:20 and headed in for an early lunch. A beautiful 6-10 easterly filled in and race 10A was started at 12:40 just outside the cove. four races were sailed in each division and racing was completed at 3pm. Close racing throughout the regatta saw Brown and Yale battling it out all weekend with Yale just squeaking out the win. One protest was heard by Nic Baird and Bill Healy resulting in a DSQ with no bearing on the final results. Alll coaches were on the water which allowed them to move marks as needed throughout the regatta. Many thanks to David Thompson fr serving as the ICSA rep.
