Bright sunny skies and warm temps for this time of year greeted sailors at this year's War Memorial Regatta. In NNE - ENE breezes of 10kts. dropping to 4kts. six races were sailed in A and B Divisions before a late lunch break and the end of the ENE-ly breeze. Racing for the day was called at 4:30pm. There were two protests filed resulting in two DSQs.
Breeze-on! 7 races were completed on Sunday in SSE-ly winds of 25kts. that dropped to 12kts. from the South over the day. There was an onshore postponement after the first races in A and B divisions were completed, when winds were sustained over 25kts. with higher gusts. The fleet returned to the course when the sustained wind dropped below 25kts.
There were further delays on the water due to significant gusts that accompanied driving heavy rain, making the windward mark not visible. The highest recorded gust was 36kts during this time. When the rain cleared, the winds continually diminished and moved to the south, eventually sailing races 13A & 13B in just 12kts. and partly sunny skies. There were no protests on Sunday. Congratulations to the St. Mary's team on their close win over Navy.
I always thank our midshipmen for giving their time to RC duty, but this is a very special thank you given the conditions and the fact that this is the weekend before their final exams, so the time they gave was even more valuable. Also thanks to Andrea Watson for braving the inclement weather to shoot some great photos. Visit "Kings Point Waterfront" to see these photos. The photos are free for teams to use, please give photo credit to "Andrea Watson, USMMA Sailing". - Rick Dominique, PRO

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
