Susan Rogers '75 Memorial

Summary

Saturday, September 21:

The Susan Rogers ’75 Memorial Regatta honors the entire Rogers Family and their commitment to sailing. The ICSA officially recognized women’s sailing in 1967, and Susan was among some of the first women sailors, pioneering women's sailing at Cornell. It is our honor to pay tribute to Susan and the extended Rogers family at this annual regatta.

The regatta this year is run in conjunction with the Top MAISA Coed regatta. Two fleets of boats on the water - WhiteCap Composite FJs & 420s.

Sailors arrived to a light southerly breeze 5-6kts. We hustled to get on the water and started on time at 10am. The Coed fleet was in the FJs and they started first. By the time they hit the gate, the wind had softened and we decided to hold the 420 start. The fleet made it back around the top marks, but the breeze continued to soften on the run, eventually completely glassing off. The forecast predicted this, and we promptly went to shore to wait for a possible Northerly to fill. It never did.

Everyone enjoyed a beautiful day at the Merrill Family Sailing Center playing yard games and swimming in the lake. Unfortunately, no sailing, but we're optimistic about the Sunday forecast.

Thanks to Dillon Paiva (USNA) for serving as the Regatta Representative.

Sunday, September 22:

The forecast was much better for today predicting winds out of the south 7-15kts. We started on time with the Coed fleet at 10am in a 6-8 kt southerly. Through 3 races things were moving along well, but the breeze started to soften around 11:30, not building as for the forecast suggested. It was a difficult weekend all around given the sailing conditions, we only managed 4 races for the Susan Rogers, and 5 for the Coed fleet.

All races were W4's with offset marks and gates except race 5 for the Coed Fleet was a W3. Thanks to Dillion Paiva once again for serving as the regatta rep and helping make some decisions throughout the day.

Congratulations to GW for winning this years Susan Rogers.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
