The fleet started in the morning with a healthy wind in the mid teens from the southwest. Heavy winds were forecast and expected to calm throughout the day. Two rotations were sailed, followed by a 30 minute break. After the break the wind was gusting over 20, bringing rolling swells from New York. Two more races were sailed on an angry Champlain. Racing was abandoned in the face of 4 foot waves after half the fleet was capsized on the line, with more boats horizontal than vertical. The special weather warning was posted in the notice board.
Thank you to esteemed alumni Sean Willeford and Nate Wiener and Amherst coach for helping with race management and many simultaneous rescues.
