Six teams braved campus closures and scattered team members due to Hurricane Dorian to attend the SAISA Women's Open Regatta. In a combined effort, USF provided the boats and Eckerd provided the venue. After an entire week of strong winds, Saturday arrived with a meager 4-6 knot southerly breeze. The first 4 races were sailed in this, but in the afternoon a promising westerly sea breeze of 7-8 knots appeared and the final 6 races were completed. All races were W4, with A and B divisions sailing together.
No protests, no breakdowns.
Congratulations to USF, Miami, and Eckerd who will join the previously qualified College of Charleston and Jacksonville University at the Women's Showcase semi-finals hosted by NEISA.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the competitors and Eckerd and USF team members for their efforts in making this event successful.
