The Rivah looked promising when sailors arrived, then both competitors and RC spent much of the day shifting courses around. It would come from the NE, then then to the East, then die and then it went back to NW and crazy lulls all around. Lots of mark changes as well. The top three spots changed all day. Bates leads with UNH hot on their heels with Bentley close behind.
One head injury resulted in The UMass/Amherst B team withdrawing for the day. Thanks to the mark boat who did yeoman's duty today. We got six races in before the breeze left for good.
An old UNH Alumni who was shooting pictures at MIT got a ride over and spent some time shooting pictures at BU as well. Thanks Dave Curtis. I can't wait to see them.
What a day on the Charles! Morning breeze fluctuated between 4-8 until around 12:30 when it piped up to 10-15. The last 4 races were sailed in lots of rain and gusts. The final race had a gust that knocked over two boats on the line and on the final run 3 got taken out simultaneously in spectacular fashion and crew demonstrated their swimming skills.
The Bentley A skipper, Nick Memoli and Kerri Tracey skunked the afternoon with 3 bullets for a total of 8 bullets to best A fleet, with Bates B fleet Jack Valentino and Cortney Tally in second and Grace and Mady Delosh, Marty Keene and Clay Grieg for B fleet overall in third.
Congratulations to the Bates Bobcats for winning the 2019 New England Dinghy Tournament. They hung onto the lead from yesterday with Bentley Falcons finishing two points behind in second and UNH Wildcats in third.
Many thanks to the Wildcats who ran the mark boat and scored. A huge debt of gratitude goes out to the BU Sailing Team for allowing the UNH Wildcats to host the NE Dinghy Tournament at BU. Thank you Stan Scheryer for you help in getting things organized on Saturday and for stopping by this morning to check. Thanks also to the coaches who stood on the dock both days and for remaining in contact with the RC boat.
