Kingsmill Cup

Summary

Saturday, September 14:

There was little wind upon arrival to the marina on Saturday morning. A Fleet was able to get one race in before the wind died and then waited on the water for wind lines in the distance. No sustainable wind came, and after 45 minutes A Fleet was sent back in and everyone had lunch during a postponement on land.

In the afternoon the wind started to build from the East. It was shifty and was 5 knots on average. A Fleet went out after lunch and finished their first set. After that, B Fleet got in their first set. One more full rotation followed.

Racing concluded at 5:30 PM after both divisions sailed 4 races.

Sunday, September 15:

With the wind forecast looking grim, the report time on Sunday was moved back to 10 AM and the first warning signal was moved back to 11 AM. At 11 AM, there was no wind and the teams waited onshore during postponement. Race Committee stayed vigilant and checked for wind every 30 minutes even though from shore it was evident that the chances of any wind building on Sunday were low.

The call to conclude the regatta due to lack of wind came at 12:30 PM. The regatta ended with an awards ceremony at 1 PM. All in all, it was a successful regatta despite tough weather conditions.

Many thanks to the Kingsmill Yacht Club for all of their help to provide housing for attending teams, to provide lunch for all regatta participants on both days, and to secure a true blessing - a room with AC to wait out the postponements in. Many thanks to Kingsmill Resort for the event space with a beautiful view and for the awards.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
