IT was a pretty wild day on Lake Pontchartrain. The breeze started off as a promising 12-15 knots from the east. Just as the first race was starting a rain squall passed through with the breeze spiking to close to 25 knots and a sizable right shift. Not long after the breeze died to 6-8 with a lumpy sea state for the remainder of the first set and several shifts saw the course and starting line move quite often.
The second set saw a bit more stability with breeze back up to 12-15 knots, and yet another rain squall just to shake things up again.
After a short break for lunch the sailors came back out for what had turned into a much windier and wavier afternoon. The third set saw a steady 17-22 knots and some very large waves that had been building over a 15 mile fetch from the east. The downwind legs were full of excitement, although a few big capsizes resulted in 5 DNFs by the end of the day.
In all, 9 races were completed on the day with 2 protests being heard. 1 was disallowed, and 1 resulted in a DSQ.
Currently the Cougars from the College of Charleston are in 1st, with the Tulane Green Wave not far behind in 2nd, and the British Universities Sailing Association in 3rd.
Another great day on Lake Pontchartrain! The breeze started off at a softer 6-10 knots out of the ESE. The first set was quite tricky as large shift phases of varying velocity would come from either side of the course, keeping the RC on its toes.
For set 2 the breeze had started to strengthen to 8-12 knots. A breeze line staying just offshore kept threatening to close in but never quite made it. This kept the breeze unstable in direction and velocity, but as the set went on the breeze gradually increased.
During the final set the breeze line finally made its way onto the course and increased to 12-16 knots and a gradually building sea state. Multiple general recalls nearly cut the regatta short, but the 18th race was finally able to get off just a minute shy of the 3:00pm deadline.
Congratulations to the College of Charleston for the win. Jack Brown of Charleston won a commemorative Sugar Bowl wristwatch for being the low point Coed Skipper, and Ciara Rodriguez-Horan of Tulane won the Rees Memorial Trophy as the low-point Women's Skipper.
A big thanks to Southern Yacht Club for hosting such a great event, and a big thanks to the Tulane University sailors who helped to run a great event as well. We look forward to having everyone back over the coming months before we host the 2020 ICSA Spring National Championships.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
