10 A&B races were completed in beautiful fall Long Island Sound conditions. The day started with overcast skies with the wind at 15 knots from the SSW with fantastic waves. As the first races were sailed, the breeze diminished a bit and shifted right with clearing skies. As the clouds moved out the breeze moved back left and built back to 15 knots with large waves, some very steep. All but one race was sailed on a W4 course. One early A race was sailed on a W5 so the boats could rotate in the lee of Kelsey's Island. Later in the afternoon as the sun was going down the breeze moved west again and began to diminish. The final B race was started in 5-10 knots but by the last downwind leg it was between 2-6 with left over large waves. There was one protest filed and will be heard in the morning. One requests for redress were heard and granted from the result of a broken hiking strap. One breakdown was awarded due to said failed hiking strap. Yale leads the day with an ominous forecast for Sunday......Many Thanks to the Connecticut College Camels for supplying a coach boat so all coaches could be on the water enjoying each others company and also for supplying a backup megaphone and horn box. The other coach boat was graciously loaned by Julie Wilson. Marly Isler'16 and Meredith Killion'05 served as a busy mark boat and jury. Charles Higgins from Tulane served as the ICSA rep. It don't get much better than today!!;)
WINDY!!!!! Racers were sent home at noon as gusts were peaking into the 30's. The central sound buoy is averaging 30knots and gusts are averaging 40knots. Time for some football! Thanks to all the helpers and volunteers and Mother Nature for a truly perfect October Saturday. I forgot to mention our great RC Team of Coach Bill and Zack with Casey Klingler'18 and Chris Champa'16. #chapasin It was great to see Tulane, U. of Miami and Charleston make the track from warmer climates.
