The morning started at 10am with a presentation by American Magic Support Team hopeful, former SHU team captain and Sail Black Rock coach and now staff at Oakcliff Sail Training Center, Oyster Bay, NY., Brian Reilly. Brian spoke on all the opportunities for training at Oakcliff including the Olympic, Match Racing, Classic, Foiling Wasps and Nacras, Offshore, Skiff, Inshore and America's Cup programs. Oakcliff also instructs on rigging, sail repair, engine mechanics, electrical, mechanical, fiberglass and general yacht/boat maintenance. Brian stayed for both days and ran a chase boat along with another former SHU team captain and ALL ACADEMIC SAILOR, David Tampellini.
Saturday was chilly and wet with a light rain. The racing took place in open water on Long Island Sound in an oscillating breeze of 12-16 knots out of the West shifting to northwest and back often with 1 to 2 foot seas. The windward marks needed constant attention along with the pin. Thank you to Brian Hayes of North Sails for his counsel and for running the very comfortable Whaler mark boat. Thank you to SHU Coach Coleman for running the coach/chase boat both days.
Five races were completed in both divisions on 18 minute W4 courses.
Racing wrapped up around 5pm followed ashore by a Pepe's Pizza and Regatta Ginger Beer Party sponsored by Regatta Ginger Beer and home baked cookies by Maureen Reilly. Maureen also shot the photos for the event while Jim Reilly commanded the Grand Banks.

Sunday was very chilly with similar winds to Saturday but with less oscillation later in the day, 12-16 knots WNW to NNW, building in the afternoon, with strong gusts capsizing a few boats. Seas conditions were 2-3 feet with occasional higher swells. The sun came out around noontime creating spectacular sailing conditions.
RC completed four more W4 races in each division. Racing ended a little before 3pm. A short awards ceremony followed with bronze, silver and gold Mystic Knotwork sailor bracelets awarded to McGill (3rd), Salve (2nd) and gold to the over winner, The University of Vermont. UVM will also have their team name inscribed on the permanent trophy, the half hull of the yacht ATLANTIC, which held the Atlantic Ocean crossing record for nearly 100 years and was home port where the SHU Trophy was held.
