NE Fall Tournament

Summary

Saturday, October 27:

Saturday got off to a cold slow start. The fleet waited briefly for the wind to build. Around 1200, wind was light and shifty, requiring constant course adjustments. The RC managed to get one start off, but was abandoned due to a 100-degree wind shift. At 1300, the wind rapidly grew to typical Lake Champlain conditions at 12-16 producing white caps at 1-2 feet. The wind also brought freezing rain, sleet and snow, and temperatures in the low 30s. After two combined division rotations for 4 races, the fleet went ashore for a break and to warm up. During the break, visibility deteriorated and the radar showed heavy rain coming in from New York. Due to the already freezing temperatures, persistent stinging sleet and dismal forecast, racing was abandoned for the day shortly after 1500. Thanks to alumnus Sean Willeford and Doug Connelly for managing marks and safety support.

Sunday, October 28:

Sunday saw much better weather than Saturday. The hour delay was warranted. The conditions were flat and unsailable on arrival, but within an hour began to develop into a steady, healthy 6-10 out of the south with little variation. It was considerably warmer, and yesterday's snow and sleet were absent. We even saw a bit of sunshine in the afternoon. The fleet was able to get in 3 rotations for 6 races, sailing until the time limit. Races had close finishes, with the fleet remaining in a tight pack throughout the race despite a longer course. There was little spread, demonstrating close and balanced competition with each team taking at least two second place finishes. Thanks again to alumnus Sean Willeford and the Hopper Family for managing marks and support, and Wentworth coach Jared Reineck for RC.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
