McMillan Cup at Navy
10 teams arrived at Navy this morning with a light drizzle falling and no breeze. Following the competitors briefing, crews rigged and got in some productive practice in the forecasted WNW breeze of 10-12 kts. But as the clouds began to clear the breeze filled and caught the fleet flat footed as it piped up to the high teens with gusts in the low 20s. As usual with this wind direction the shifts were huge and puffs and lulls raked the fleet mercilessly.
SUNY was not intimidated in the least and came out strong winning the first two races followed by a 2 and a 4 to hold a commanding lead going into tomorrow. College of Charleston put together a super consistent scoreline of 4,4,4,2 to claim second on the day while Mass Maritime also sailed strong posting 2,2,5,5 to hold third.
PRO Paul Clissold and his NASS RC team did a super job in the challenging keeping the race course square and getting in the slate for the day.
Racing continues tomorrow!

McMillan Cup 2018
Unfortunately, we used up all the wind allocated for the weekend on the Chesapeake yesterday which left nothing for the fleet to race in today. The fleet went out to the race area and warmed up but to no avail.. They all waited patiently but at 1245 with nothing on the horizon, the call was made to return to the dock.
The results from yesterday's four races stand as the final results for the regatta.
Congratulations to the crew from SUNY Maritime who dominated to win the McMillan Cup for the first time in 35 years. Second place went to Charleston while 3rd was Mass Maritime.
Thanks to our PRO Paul Clissold and his team of NASS RC volunteers including Jan Richardson, Maureen Mills, Ann Powers, Marino Dimarzo, Bob Holmes, Les Folio, Doug Finlayson, Mike Beatty, Steve Small, Paul Grimm and Ralph Roberts.
Thanks also to our safety officers Mike Brownlee, Steve Cohan, Matt Baker, Jay Corcoran, Brian Ray, Doug Dykman, Nelson Pemberton, Dan Trammell, Dave Shaeffer and Aron Axe.
Lastly, we'd like to thank our jury led by Dan Trammell which included Maureen Mills, Mike Brownlee and Nelson Pemberton and are happy that their services were not needed at the event!
Next up at Navy will be the Kennedy Cup 3 & 4 November. Stand by for announcements on berth allocations for that event.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
