Saturday proved to be a challenging day of racing on Mystic Lake. Sailors arrived to an 8 knot NNW breeze that quickly became shifty once all boats were launched. The first two races ranged from 3-6 knots with 45 degree shifts on any given leg. Race 3 was the most challenging race of all, being started and abandoned three times before taking a lunch break at 2pm. Racing was postponed due to shifty and light conditions until 3:30. Race 3 was started at 3:45, but was abandoned due to an unfair fleet inversion on the final leg. Sailors were sent home at 4:30 to return tomorrow for another exciting day of racing on Mystic Lake. No protests were filed, and there were no breakdowns.
Sunday greeted sailors with a much more promising northerly breeze at 8-10 knots. After a quick meeting, and a few bungee replacements, the sailors were on the water and ready to race. Races 3 and 5 were a short W4 course with wind ranging from 4-6 knots and shifting from N-NW. Races 4 and 6 were a longer W6 course with shifty breeze from 6-8 knots. Steadier wind on Sunday made for some exciting racing with many close finishes. The fleets sailed in combined divisions all weekend with 18 boats on the line, and an I-flag flown for every start. With the exception of a frayed bungee and a new universal before racing, there were no breakdowns. No protests were filed.
Congratulations to Harvard for an outstanding event, winning the regatta by 40 points!
