Kilpatrick Regatta
The University of Central Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Boat Club co-hosted the Kilpatrick Regatta at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City on Saturday October 14.
Sunny skies with the air temperature in the 80’s and strong south winds greeted sailors from the University of Texas, University of North Texas, University of Colorado, and host University of Central Oklahoma. In order to get more competitors on the water at one time, A and B divisions were started together. The wind was blowing 18-22 with gusts to 30 during Races 1-2 and increased after the rotation to 22-25, gusting to 34, during Races 3-4. After lunch, two more races were sailed as the wind continued to increase to 26-30, and gusting into the low 40’s. By that time, everyone agreed they were ready to head for shore and call the regatta done.
Racing was close, with only 5 points separating the top three teams. Congratulations to the Texas Longhorns for winning the regatta!
Thanks to David Bass for running the races. Also, Charlie Shafer, Michelle Schafer, and Chris Holman stayed very busy on the mark-set/rescue boat. And finally, Donna Bass and Courtney Harlin handled all shore activities, including scoring, boat rotation, and lunch for all participants.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
