Emma Biagioni 2017

Summary

Saturday, November 4:

It was a cold and windy day out on Macatawa Bay this past Saturday, as sailors came into Holland, Michigan to compete at the annual Emma Biagioni Regatta. After filling in at around 8:30am sailors got out on the water to start competing around 10:00am in what seemed like manageable conditions. However once out on the water Divison A quickly had to compete with other sailors and wind conditions in the upper 15-20 knot range. By the time they competed their second race, the Race committee decided to postpone the race until wind died down, as several boats had capsized or turtled. After waiting for the wind to died down slightly, the regatta commenced with B division, however as soon as the sailors got back out on the water the wind picked up again making it very difficult to sail. Additional safety boats went out on the water to help round up sailors to come back to shore and help those who were struggling to come back in. Around 1:00pm Emma B. was postponed with hopes for better weather tomorrow.

Sunday, November 5:

The second day of Emma Biagioni sailors came in a little earlier than usual to start races around 9:45pm, as only two races were able to be completed on the first day. However once getting out there it took a while for races to start, as winds were the complete opposite of the day before. Sailors used kinetics to get out to what Race Committee was hoping to be the starting line, yet they battled setting up the course as wind conditions faded between 2.5-5 knots making it difficult to sail. After looking for spots on the lake where sailors would be able to pick up the most wind, B division races finally started and the wind began to pick up slightly between the 5-10 knot range. From there sailors were able to get in four races in each division to complete a full and successful regatta. Despite challenges with the wind and weather Race Committee and MCSA sailors were able to pull off yet another great regatta. Sailors came back in around 1:45pm to complete awards with Grand Valley taking 1st and 3rd overall and Toledo coming in 2nd.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
