The day began with new crispy jibs and lots of hope for the day. Mendums delivered stunning skies and hot temps with a bit of breeze to start the day. It started with a Northerly and bounced back and forth and back and forth finally shifting to the NE. Shifts were crazy at the windward mark. Breeze was up and down and finally shutting down midway into the second B race which was abandoned. Some shore time was had accompanied by swimming and hot dogs. Breeze came back up and an attempt was made to go back out on the water to finish the B set but the breeze finally shut down. Teams demonstrated great roll tacks as they propelled themselves back to the dock. A new technique was demonstrated by one of the Northern Alliance teams dubbed the Slingshot approach. It worked the first time but not the second.
Chris Loder was able to be there for a short period of time as teams left the dock and came out and spoke with several teams on the water.
Thanks to the Wildcats, Tim, Cameron, Kailee, Jane, Mady, Jenna, Nate, Alison for assistance with setting and moving marks, manning the grill, boat repair, scoring and of course racing. Thanks also to John Ingalls who was the NEISA rep.
Sailors will be greeted with Wildcat Muffins to kick off Sunday. Forecast is light as the storm which produced great breeze this past week has moved on sucking out all the breeze for the weekend.
Competitors were greeted with hot off the grill Wildcat Muffins - 60 were devoured in record time. On the water glass surrounded the docks. Whispers of breeze teased everyone throughout the day. Teams were hoping to finish the B set and then 1 more for each division to make it an official regatta. Alas that was not to be. However the silver lining was the incredible weather and fun time had by all. Bowdoin A Division won the paddleboat race, MMA figured out how to load 2 guys on a small windsurfer, lots of paddle boarding and swimming happened, an awesome card tower was built not fearing any breeze to knock it over and some studying got done all while competitors and coaches sweated it out.
The plug was pulled at the last possible second at 1:15. Thanks to all the competitors and coaches for their patience and thanks also to the Wildcats Tim, Autumn, Sophia, Zac ("there are gluten free options"), Mady, Kendolyn, James and Nate for the hustle today.
Unfortunately we were not able to complete the regatta.
