Early fall thunderstorms kept competitors on shore for much of the day on the opening day of the 75th edition of the Danmark Trophy. After waiting for one cell to pass, racing got underway at 11:45. Three A-Division races and two B-Division races were completed before everyone was sent in for a long delay on shore. Racing started again at 2:30. Eight races were sailed in each division in mostly northeast wind that ranged from 3-14 knots. All courses were trapezoids.
One protest and one request for redress was heard, neither resulting in changes to the scores. Thank you to Mike Kalin (MIT), Zack Leonard (Yale), Greg Wilkinson (BC), and Ward Cromwell (Charleston) for hearing protests.
First warning on Sunday will be 10am.
On Sunday at the Danmark, racing began in a solid northeasterly that provided excellent conditions for the first several races per division. After noon, the breeze became much less stable with large pressure and angle differences. After shifting the race course several times to accommodate, it ultimately got too unstable to run additional quality races. Five races per division were completed today. No protests were filed.
A huge thank you goes out to the Coast Guard undergrads who helped with race committee this weekend - Erin Morgan '18, Philip Whittlesey '20, Andrew Widmeier '20, Walter Gnann '21, Richie Gordon '21, Darden Purrington '20, Halee Lewis '21, and Matt Pelisek '21. Thank you to Bowdoin and Tufts for bringing their horn boxes. And thanks to Clinton Hayes (Stanford) for serving as the ICSA rep.
Congratulations to the College of Charleston for winning the 75th Danmark Trophy!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
